ButtonHub is a macOS app that runs on the show Mac, next to Companion and QLab. The crew open a link on their own phones and get the handful of controls they are responsible for, without ever being handed the whole show file, and without being shown Companion or QLab at all.
Built for theatre, live events and broadcast, where a failure is not a bad user experience but a mistake in front of an audience.
Fire Companion buttons and QLab cues from a phone on the venue network. Every person gets their own link, PIN locked, carrying only their own controls.
A live cue readout built for the musical director. The standing cue, what is coming next, and the whole list underneath, marked and moving as the playhead does. Large enough to read from behind a keyboard, and it follows QLab in about a third of a second.
A chat between the people running the show, on phones and on the operators’ screens. Fixed phrases for the calls that repeat, and colour-coded full-screen flashes for the ones nobody can afford to miss. One link, as many named voices as the show needs.
Two machines watching each other, with one URL that follows whichever is driving. Handing the show over is a person’s decision, never an automatic guess, because a network drop and a dead machine look identical from the outside.
Works on the local network with nothing else involved. Where there is no shared network, it travels over our own relay instead, and a printed QR sheet gets each person to their own page.

A normal macOS application sitting alongside Companion and QLab, on the machine that is already running the show.
Companion over its HTTP API, QLab over OSC. Companion itself is never exposed to the phones.

The mode decides what the machine does and what follows what. These are the five, drawn the same way they appear in the app.
One Mac. The phones talk to it, nothing paired and nothing mirrored. The right mode for most gigs.
Two Macs, paired. Playheads, presses and settings follow the main. The backup fires nothing at all until somebody promotes it.
Show sync, and presses aimed at Companion fire on the other machine’s Companion too.
